So, You Adopted A Bunny For Easter

So, You Adopted a Bunny For Easter...

Did you buy into the fact that bunnies are cute and adorable and decided to buy one for your child or grandchild? Did you hear them ask you for a Bunny for Easter? It usually starts with seeing the Cadbury “Everybody wants to be a  Bunny” commercial, The Bunny is so cute and furry and tiny.

Remember this cute ball of fur grows up, requires attention and has a personality and feelings. This precious little Fur Baby is not for a young child for Easter. They will not know how to care for this cute baby and because adults are usually not supervising the interaction, more likely than not, the child will pick this cute baby up by their ears. Because the adult doesn’t know better, the adult will think it’s cute, not knowing the Bunny is in pain.

Remember, Bunnies Grow Up Like Your Child or Grandchild

They have needs and wants without speaking their mind. They trust that you’ll love, nurture and take care of their wants and needs by you being educated.

Now that Easter is over, people see that the novelty has worn off and why not just take them to the shelter or a bunny rescue and “dump” them? This is really what you are doing—dumping them as they are no longer needed to be cute and you don’t want the responsibility anymore.

Reality is reality. Remember these little babies are not toys and have feelings whether you think so or not. When bunnies, as with other fur babies, these are living beings. Bunnies should not be adopted for children under 5 since they are not play things and/or toys. Every time people go and adopt bunnies when that is the current trend, (i.e. St Bernards when the movie Beethoven was released) a lot of people went out and bought St Bernard dogs. When these St Bernard puppies started to grow and grow, again people decided to dump them.

So now there are lots of bunnies who are waiting for a furever home and hoping to get a pet parent who wants and know how to take care of them.

Remember Your Bunny Is Special

Bunnies are considered exotics and need a doctor who needs to take care of them. Not every veterinarian knows how to deal with bunnies. Before taking a bunny to a vet, do some research to find out whether that clinic’s doctors say whether they take care of bunnies.

Whether you are considering adopting a bunny, a cat or a dog, please do the fur baby and yourself a favor, take classes to better educate yourself so your precious fur baby can have the best care you as the pet parent can give him or her. Because they are a living being, so cute and precious, please do everything you can to learn about their habits, the kind of food that is best for them, the best environment for them, and the whole nine yards before you adopt them.

Welcome Your Bunny Home With Confidence!

When you and/or your family make the decision to adopt a bunny into your family there is so much more to learn than going to a rescue, looking for a new baby (sometimes a specific baby), buying a water and food bowl, (if you choose to be a responsible pet parent), litter options, and maybe some toys. There is so much more to learn than just those things.

In our class, we teach and inspire you to be a great pet parent. You will learn the basics of how to prepare your home before bringing a fur baby home, your commitment to this little fur baby, how to prepare for a natural disaster with this fur baby (and you know we have natural disasters), and so much more. If you are already a pet parent, there is still a lot to learn, so sign up for our classes so we can teach and inspire you (and your family) to be great pet parents!
