Housing

Bunnies require space to move around, play and relax comfortably, as well as a place to hide when they feel danger is near. A spacious and secure hutch or pen with plenty of space for your bunny to move around is necessary. The minimum recommended size for a single bunny is 4 ft. x 2 ft. x 2 ft. Consider placing the hutch in a sheltered area away from direct sunlight, rain, and wind.

Keeping the bunny in the house is also an excellent idea. Make sure you are able to keep them cool when the weather is hot outside (if they are outside)  and keeping their bodies cool when they are inside is crucial. Bunnies are unable to deal with heat.

Feeding

Bunnies are herbivorous and require a diet consisting of hay, fresh vegetables, and fruits, and water. Hay needs be provided to your bunny daily and makes up 75% of their diet. A good rule of thumb is to make  sure there is always hay for the bunny to munch on and plenty of clean water in a water bowl, not the water bottle that hangs on their enclosure. Vegetables and fruits make up the remaining 25% of their diet.

Grooming

Regular grooming is essential to keep your bunny’s coat shiny and healthy. Rabbits shed their fur regularly and require brushing to remove loose hair and any knots. Trimming of their nails is also necessary to keep them comfortable and pain-free. Maintaining good dental hygiene is also vital as rabbits’ teeth grow continuously. They need to chew on thing like apple wood, and other bunny items you can get at a bunny rescue to keep their teeth from overgrowing.

Playtime

Bunnies are social creatures and love to play and interact with their owners. Daily playtime can include toys, tunnels, and climbing structures in a safe and secure area. Spend time playing and bonding with your bunny and provide them with mental and physical stimulation.

Healthcare

Regular vet checks with a qualified bunny doctor are essential to help your bunny stay healthy. Watch out for any signs of illness or injury, including diarrhea, lethargy, and loss of appetite. If in doubt, always consult a vet to get professional advice.
